We completed our days in Wasatch in Utah, biking, hiking and playing disc golf at the lovely state park where we camped. We went on waterfall hike to Stewart Falls in Sundance, Utah. The falls are created from runoff that trickles down from the glacier on the back of Mount Timpanogos.
After Wasatch, we spent the weekend camping in southern Idaho at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. It was truly an otherworldly environment. It’s over 750,000 acres of hardened lava flow, dating from 15,000 years ago to as recently as just 2000 years ago. The National Park Service website says it best -- “ Craters of the Moon is a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. We invite you to explore this "weird and scenic landscape" where yesterday's volcanic events are likely to continue tomorrow.” We hiked on cinder trails to lava tubes, lava caves, cinder cones and splatter cones. Each day we also took time out to visit a local “wild” hot spring that existed just outside the park.
Here are some photos Eloise took of the sunset on our drive back to camp after a long soak in the hot springs.
Two days ago we landed at our friend Chris Moyles' farm in Missoula, Montana. Chris and I have known each other since we were in our 20’s living in Rappahannock County, VA. What a lovely spot to camp the Airstream this week while we explore Missoula and the surrounding area.
